Pitt County Honored by NC General Assembly
A House Joint Resolution (1722) honoring the 250th Anniversary of Pitt County was voted on by the North Carolina General Assembly on June 7, 2010.
The resolution was sponsored by Representatives Marian McLawhorn, Edith Warren and Arthur Williams. Pitt County Commissioners in attendance were Chairman Kenneth Ross, Vice Chairman David Hammond, Tom Johnson, Ephraigm Smith, Melvin McLawhorn, and Beth Ward. Pitt County Manager Scott Elliott, Deputy County Manager/Chief Financial Officer Melonie Bryan, and County Attorney Janis Gallagher were also in attendance. All were recognized in the House and Senate Chambers.
Pitt County was established in 1760 and will celebrate its 250th anniversary by holding several special events during calendar year 2010. Events such as a photo contest, the 2nd Annual Car & Bike Show, and the What's Your History? Project, are all open to the public and we encourage our citizens to get involved and help us celebrate our history and document our heritage.
