Financial Services Recognized for Outstanding Budgeting

Article PicturePitt County Government is pleased to announce that its Financial Services Department has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Award for the County’s fiscal year 2009-2010 budget document. The GFOA Distinguished Budget Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, and represents a remarkable accomplishment for Pitt County.

In order to receive the award, Pitt County’s Financial Services Department had to meet nationally recognized standards for effective budget presentation that assesses how well the budget serves as a policy document, operations guide, financial plan, and communications tool. The Pitt County Fiscal Year 2009-2010 Budget document received "Outstanding" or "Proficient" remarks from reviewers on all four criteria this year.

The award is valid for one year. Pitt County has continued to improve its budget practices and meet the requirements for the award each year, and is pleased to have been recognized with this particular budget award for thirteen consecutive years.

Melonie Bryan has worked as Pitt County’s Chief Finance Officer since 1996, and said that it is, "rewarding to receive validation from the Government Finance Officers Association with this award" for the work the Financial Services Department does each year.
